Sperati made more reproduction of Spanish stamps that for any other country. although some were complete fabrications, for many of teh reproductions he washed stamps and retained genuine cancels. See the mounted pages for specific information on the various issues.

1. this reproduction always has a static cancel placed in the position as shown


1850 Issue 5r

1. there are two spots of color in the first "E" of "REALES"

2. the bottom horizontal stroke of the "E" of
" CORREOS" is broken away from the upright


1850 Issue 6r - Type A
the transfer position for this types may be identified by the break in the white line under the numeral "l" of date

1. the bottom left serif of the first "E" of "REALES" is doubled

2. there is a white spot in the lower loop of the "S" of " CORREOS"

the sheet position reproduced may be identified by the smudges in white line beneath the value and the dot of color in the lower part of the "C" of "CERTIFICADO"

the genuine position flaws that also appear on the reproduction include the left lower rosette which has several irregular lines touching its outer frame and the bottom right leg of the second "R" of CORREOS" is broken from the loop.

2. there is a break in the thin frame line just below the second "R" of "CORREOS"


1851 Issue 12c

This reproduction was made by photographing a genuine 6 cuartos and altering the value.

figure "8"

 


1851 Issue 2r - Type A

1. there is a break in the top frame line just to the left
of the "D" of " DOS"

1851 Issue 2r Blue Error of Color (Both Types)

This reproduction is found in se-tenant pairs with the 6 reales. Reproduction was made in both types A and B.


1851 Issue 2r - Type B

1. there is a break in the "S" of " DOS" at the top, so that the serif is separate from the letter

2. there is a break in the curved frame line immediately above the top of the letter "R" of "REALES"

3. the bottom right serif of the first numeral "l" is severed from the upright


1851 Issue 5r

This reproduction also exists in the chocolate brown error of color.

1. there is a white spot in the top frame line above the
"N" of " CINCO"

2. there are white spots in the letters "NCO" of
"CINCO

3. there is a break in the head of the "F" in "CERTIFO"
so the horizontal stroke is severed from the upright


1851 Issue 6r

1. the upper horizontal stroke of the "E" of "CERTIFO"

1851 Issue 10r - Type A

left serif

1. the "C" of "CERT" is broken at top and at bottom

2. the "C" of " CORREOS" is broken at top and at

3. the second "R" of "CORROS" lacks bottom left serif

the bottom in the horizontal strokes


1852 Issue 2r - Type B

1. there is a defect on the inner side of the right frame just above the lower tablet

2. the "O" of "FRANCO" is broken at the top and has an nick in the right side. In a later state both these flaws
were retouched and removed

3. there is a nick in the circular frame at three o'clock


1852 Issue 2r - Type C

This exists as the left stamp of a pair with type D.

1. the "C" of "CERT" is broken at top and at bottom

2. the "C" of " CORREOS" is broken at top and at
bottom

3. the "O" of "FRANCO" is broken at the top and has an nick in the right side. In a later state both these flaws
were retouched and removed


1852 Issue 2r - Type D

1. there is a defect on the inner side of the right frame just above the lower tablet

2. the right frame line shows a curved break just above
the lower panel

3. the "D" of "DO" is broken at top


1852 Issue 2r - Type E

This reproduction was used to make pairs and strips of
three and possibly larger pieces.

1. There is a diagonal break in the frame line above the
"R" of "CERT" which is very clear on some examples

2. the "C" of "CERT" is broken at top and at bottom

3. there is a defect on the inner side of the right frame
just above the lower tablet


1852 Issue 5r - Type A

1. there is a diagonal break in the background immediately above the second "O" of "CORREOS"

Only one example seen and tests may not be constant.

1. the top and bottom of "C" of "CERT" are broken

1853 Madrid Locals 1c - Type B

2. the loop of the "R" in CUARTO" is not joined to the
upright

3. there is a defect on the left side of the head of the "T"
of "CUARTO"


1853 Madrid Locals 3c - Type A

1. the head of the first "I of "INTERIOR" is separated from the upright

2. the bottom left serif of the "F" of "FRANCO" is broken away from the upright

3. there is a curled line running from the bottom frameline towards the "T" of "CUARTOS"
 

 


1853 Madrid Locals 3c - Type B

This was made from a retouched transfer of type A.

1. there are two defects in the head of the "E" of "CORREO" and top right serif is broken away.

2. the head of the first "I of "INTERIOR" is separated from the upright
