Mecklenburg-Schwerin

(2 types, one new since Sperati II published)

For Mecklenburg-Schwerin Sperati made both used and unused reproductions as well as proofs of the 1856 issue five schilling. All of his "used" reproductions have forged cancels. A new type, type B (with bend in inner frameline at top center), was identified by Carl Walske after Sperati II was published. The two discovery copes are shown on mounted page.

1856 Issue 5s - Type A

1. the outer frameline above the "E" of "MARKE" is weak

2. the letters "K" and "L" of "MECKLENB" are joined at top


1856 Issue 5s - Type B

1.there is a downward bend in thin frameline directly above the "M" of "MARKE"

2. the letters "K" and "L" of "MECKLENB" are nearly joined at top
