Sperati's San Marino reproductions, advertised for sale by Oneglia before 1919, were previously thought to have been done his brother Mariano. Sperati I described two San Marino reproductions but Carl Walske identified a further eleven in Sperati II.

1877 Issue 40c

1. the outer frameline in nicked on top and on bottom above the cross on crown

2. the bottom serif of "S" in "POSTAGE" has a dimple at left edge


1892 Issue 65c

1. there is a white splash in colored background below the "I" of "DIS." at top

2. there is no central bar in the "B" of "LIBERTAS"

Examples of these additional denominations are known only in the Maurizio Raybaudi reference collection. They show more brown under UV light than the originals. See Sperati II notes linked below for further information.


1903 Issue 20c

1. the right side of the tiny piece at top right corner has a large nick

2. there is a dot of color on the curved line below the "LI" of "LIBERTAS"


1903 Issue 1 lire

1. there are several small dents in the top frameline

2. there is a break in right outer frameline at 1mm and 3.5mm from bottom


1903 Issue 2 lire

1. there is a dent in outside frameline 9.4mm from top

2. the "P" of "REP" has a weak to non-existent serif on its upper arm

 


1903 Issue 5 lire

1. there is a break in the outer circle above the numeral "5"

2. there is a small nick in the upper left side of the "O" of "POSTALE"


1897 Postage Due Issue 5 lire - Type A Frame

1. the "R" of "LIBERTAS" has white speckles in left leg

2. there is a small white dot in "I" of "DI"


1897 Postage Due Issue 10 lire - Type A Frame

1. the "R" of "LIBERTAS" has white speckles in left leg

2. there is a small white dot in "I" of "DI"

(the same "L.10" cliché was used to produce both 10 lire stamps )


1897 Postage Due Issue 1 lire - Type B Frame

1. there is a white dot in the outer top frameline at left corner

2. there is a break at the bottom of the loop of "P" of "REPUB"


1897 Postage Due Issue 10 lire - Type B Frame

1. there is a white dot in the outer top frameline at left corner

2. there is a break at the bottom of the loop of "P" of "REPUB"
