1895 / 1897 Issues 5p and 10p

Sperati made reproductions of the 1867 issue half real gray and the 5p and 10p denominations of the 1895 issue. The 1895 issue reproductions are on genuine watermarked stamp paper with design washed out and with genuine cancels retained.

1. the cross hatching to the right of the word "REAL" is very broken

2. the tip of the nose is a shaped dot instead of being a curve as in the genuine

3. the lines of shading alongside the outline of the head are mostly separate from one another, whereas in the genuine they tend more toward being joined


1895 /1897 5p Issues

1. the "O" "CORREOS" has a break at the foot

2. the "S" of "CORREOS" has a break at the top

(only a single proof was reported in Sperati I)

 

1895 / 1897 10p Issues

1. there is a dot over the first "R" in "CORREOS" and two dots under the upright of the same letter
